Iconic Notation
Playing with Notation (6th Grade)
After learning about composers like George Crumb and Krzystof Penderecki who used unique and abstract notation, these sixth graders created their own icons and gave them a musical purpose. Then using any medium (paper/pencil, PowerPoint, apps, etc.) they arranged their own piece. These were then performed and recorded, and displayed at open house. Parents got to try and play the piece their children had created, and then listen to how it was "supposed" to sound. The key for this particular composition is below.
